I feel like peaches are one of the ultimate summer fruits. And living in BC where the Okanagan is just a few hours away, fresh peaches make their way to Vancouver for us Vancouverites to enjoy in the warm summer months.
The Okanagan is a region in BC that is known for its wineries and fruit orchards. The freshest, juiciest fruit grows there, and I always look forward to the time of year (ie. now) when fresh Okanagan fruit is sold here. Cherries, blueberries, and peaches!!! In fact, I just had an Okanagan peach as a snack and oh my, the flavor!!! Just delicious. The non-Okanagan peaches just don’t compare in flavor. Definitely worth the wait for the “local” peaches.
While eating peaches fresh is a great way to enjoy them, I also love grilling them. Grilling peaches brings out the sweetness of the fruit, the peach will caramelize and start to release its juices; a grilled peach is heaven!
The best way I found to grill a peach is to do so on a grill pan. It gives beautiful grill marks, and also doesn’t take as much time to grill as a BBQ (trust me, I’ve tried both ways). A grill pan is definitely my recommended method to grill peaches.
You can eat a grilled peach on its own, but I think topping it with a little something makes the peach extra special. Things you can top your grilled peach with include gelato, whipped mascarpone, yogurt, or whipped ricotta. I’m sure there are other topping options, but those are the toppings I considered when developing this recipe.
I chose to top these grilled peaches with whipped ricotta because, quite simply, it’s delicious!
I flavoured the ricotta with honey and fresh vanilla bean, and love how the ricotta takes on those beautiful flavours. You can even make the ricotta mixture in advance and refrigerate it until you’re ready to grill the peaches.
Finished with cinnamon, these grilled peaches with vanilla bean and honey whipped ricotta make the perfect summer dessert.
It’s pretty hot here in Vancouver at the moment, and this is definitely a dessert I would want to finish a meal off with. I’ll save the heavier cakes for the winter time 😊
Grilled peaches with whipped vanilla bean and honey ricotta
These grilled peaches topped with whipped vanilla bean and honey ricotta are the perfect summer dessert. When grilled, the peaches release their juices and caramelize, and the flavored ricotta is the perfect compliment to these peaches!
- 6 peaches
- 2 cups ricotta cheese
- 5 tbsp honey
- 1 vanilla bean
- coconut oil for brushing peaches
- cooking spray to spray the grill pan
- cinnamon to sprinkle on peaches
In a stand mixer bowl, add the ricotta and honey. Remove seeds from vanilla bean by cutting the vanilla bean in half lengthwise and scooping out the seeds. Add seeds to ricotta as well.
Whip ricotta mixture until ricotta reaches a cream-like consistency, about 3-5 minutes. Set aside.
Cut peaches in half and remove pit.
Heat a grill pan on the stove on medium heat, and spray with cooking spray. Brush the cut side of the peaches with coconut oil. Place peaches face down on the grill pan and grill until grill marks form, about 1-2 minutes. Remove from grill pan. Allow peaches to cool slightly.
Scoop a generous amount of ricotta on to each grilled peach half.
Sprinkle ricotta with cinnamon. Serve and enjoy!
If the ricotta you're using is has a lot of liquid in it, drain ricotta of liquid using a sieve. It will whip better this way.
