These burrata crostini with mortadella and pistachio pesto take a classic Italian flavor combination and make it into a delicious appetizer!

This burrata, mortadella and pistachio flavor combination is a standard in Italian pizzerias (one of my personal favorites!), so I thought why not turn it into a crostino?

The delicate flavors are perfect to indulge in before a meal, but they also make a great small meal on their own or snack.

Need a refresher on how to make crostini? Check out my guide on making crostini.

    Ingredients

    • French baguette slices
    • Burrata
    • Mortadella
    • Pistachio pesto
    • Chopped pistachios

    What is burrata?

Burrata is an Italian cheese. It has an outer “skin” similar to fresh mozzarella , but inside, there is a pouch filled with cheese curds and cream. It comes from the Puglia region of Italy.

The inside is soft and delicious. In fact, when you cut into burrata, the filling usually spills out.

    What is mortadella?

Mortadella is an Italian cold cut made of pork (like a large sausage), studded with pistachios or peppercorns. It's seasoned with a mixture of peppers, caraway, and garlic, and has a silky texture, thanks to a dose of pork fat.
